More than 40 million people are living in conditions of human slavery in Asia Pacific; the majority of those individuals are trapped in forced labour situations, associated with manufacturing supply chains.
Modern slavery poses a great risk, not only to the welfare of these individuals, but also to the survival of businesses. Due to its clandestine nature, it is often difficult for businesses to identify the risks.
Company reputations, brand value, consumer perceptions and shareholder value can be negatively impacted if a company is found to be part of the forced labour support system, even if it is participating unknowingly.
The Mekong Club is the one of the first not-for-profit organisations in Asia to use "business to business" approaches to fight slavery. Bridging the gap between the public and private sectors, the Mekong Club helps companies of all sizes to understand the complexity of modern slavery and to reduce their vulnerability within their supply chain/business environment.
Matt Friedman, CEO of the Mekong Club, and an international human trafficking expert, will join APACMed members for an exclusive breakfast, and will share insights on the scale of the problem, as well as shed some light on how businesses can tackle it.
Every four seconds, another person enters a human trafficking situation somewhere in the world. To make sense of this important issue and its relevance to today's manufacturing community, Matt Friedman will offer a comprehensive update on this topic. His talk will explore the following:
