Digital identification offers a number of benefits in the healthcare system. In the COVID-19 context, digital identification brings value on a number of elements including vaccines and COVID-19 test kits, ventilators, etc. A Unique Device Identification (UDI) system standardizes and adequately identifies medical devices through their distribution and use & has different regulatory frameworks for implementation globally.

Although digital identification brings clear benefits to the healthcare industry, there are several barriers that impede the optimal implementation of this technology.
